Short breaks & holidays to Oxford

The City of Dreaming Spires is world-famous for its leading university and long history. For over 800 years, it has been home to royalty and scholars alike and has transformed into a bustling, cosmopolitan town with a unique mix of old and new. Oxford has some of the most inspiring architecture in the world, sparking the inspiration behind some of the world’s most famous stories such as Harry Potter, Alice in Wonderland and Inspector Morse. One of the best ways to take in the incredible skyline is by climbing the 99 steps up Carfax Tower where you’ll get a bird’s eye view of the city.

In the city centre, there are plenty of attractions and museums to keep you busy. The Oxford Castle and Prison is popular, with the chance to explore the history of the 1,000-year-old building and some of its infamous inmates. The Ashmolean Museum of Art and Archaeology boasts an incredible collection of objects dating back to 8000 BC, so is well worth a visit. As well as getting lost in history, Oxford has a wide range of modern-day amenities, such as the Westgate Oxford, a shopping centre offering over 100 global brands.
The areas around Oxford are just as lovely as Oxford itself – from the picturesque riverside town of Henley-on-Thames and the gorgeous Cotswolds to the historic market town of Bicester, you’ll love exploring this beautiful corner of Britain.
