Top Free Things to do in Llandudno

Well, the best things in life are free, as they say.

No matter what your holiday budget is, there are lots of things to do in Llandudno, the largest seaside resort in Wales.

Let’s take a look at some of the attractions you can visit in this beautiful Victorian town that won’t cost you a penny.

1. Visit the Great Orme

Whether you’re interested in wildlife, geology or archaeology, or you like to explore the beautiful countryside, the Great Orme is a must-visit attraction in Llandudno. Enjoy a circular walk up to the 679ft summit and take in the breathtaking views from Snowdonia and Anglesey, and over to the Isle of Man and the Lake District. On your way up, it’s worth taking some time to spot the varied wildlife, which includes seabirds, owls and many species of butterflies.

2. Relax in the beautiful Happy Valley Gardens

Discover Happy Valley Gardens, located at the foot of the limestone headland of the Great Orme, and just a 10-minute walk from the Llandudno North Shore Promenade. Relax and unwind in the beautifully maintained gardens, admiring the stunning sea views. It was once a copper mine, then a stone quarry, and is now home to wildlife, plants, a putting green, ski slope and the cable car base station.

3. Blow away the cobwebs with a walk down the Promenade

A visit to the seaside would of course not be complete without walks along the promenade, taking in the fresh sea air. Llandudno Promenade is almost 2 miles long and has recently been rated as one of the best coastal walks in the UK - it’s just perfect for blowing away the cobwebs.

4. Take a trip down the longest pier in Wales

Take a trip down Llandudno Pier, built in 1884, and the longest pier in Wales – it’s also one of the finest in the UK. Relax and explore the shops, stalls, arcades, whilst admiring the amazing views of the Irish Sea and the North Wales Coast. It’s open all year round, with lots of live entertainment provided during the summer months.

5. Explore the town’s beautiful beaches – North Shore and West Shore

There are two award-winning beaches for you to visit in Llandudno. The main one in the town is North Shore beach, often referred to as Llandudno Beach, sheltered by the two headlands, Great Orme and Little Orme. If you prefer a more secluded spot, you’ll love the quieter West Shore Beach, a sandy beach facing towards Conwy Bay. It’s a favourite with kite flyers, kite surfers and is a perfect location for enjoying beautiful sunsets.

6. Check out the arts and crafts at Mostyn Art Gallery

If you’re an art lover, you’ve just got to visit Mostyn Art Gallery with its six different galleries. Within an award-winning architectural design, you’ll find national and international contemporary art, along with craft exhibitions. It’s open Tuesday to Sunday and yes, admission is free.
