Coach holidays to Windsor Castle

Windsor Castle

Windsor Castle -The largest and oldest inhabited castles in the world

From the time of William the Conqueror right through the centuries to our current Queen, continuous monarchs have lived and left their mark on Windsor Castle which can be discovered on a coach break with National Holidays.

An official residence of Her Majesty The Queen, Windsor Castle is still very much a working palace and regarded as a family home by the Royal Family, used regularly to host State visits and formal ceremonies.

Inside, the castle houses some of the most treasured items in the Royal Collection which can be best appreciated on a guided audio tour.

Step inside the lavishly decorated gilded State Apartments be enthralled by the splendour of the rooms, including the Grand Reception Room and St George’s Hall.

Marvel at the stunning furniture and sculptures, and make sure to stop and admire the paintings that line the walls as these feature priceless works by some of the world’s most celebrated artists including Rembrandt, Van Dyck, Rubens and Canaletto.

Look out for Queen Mary’s Dolls’ House, arguably the world’s most famous dolls’ house, built by leading British architect Sir Edwin Lutyens as a present to the Queen between 1921 and 1924, packed with tiny fixtures and fittings, plus running water and electricity!

Top of your places to visit in the castle grounds must be St George’s Chapel, the spiritual home of the Order of the Garter, where ten monarchs, including Charles I, Henry VIII and his wife Jane Seymour and more recently Queen Mother and Princess Margaret are laid to rest.

To add to the pomp you can also witness the ceremonial spectacle of The Changing of the Guard – a British tradition and perfect photo opportunity.
