Kenilworth Castle

Coach holidays to Kenilworth Castle

Kenilworth Castle by Coach

Kenilworth Castle ranks as one of the most beautiful castles in the UK thanks to its imposing ruins which are the result of 900 years of history.

The castle has a unique, intriguing and colourful history, which is why it remains a popular coach trip destination.

Throughout British history, Kenilworth Castle has been at the heart England’s affairs and during that time has observed royalty, romance and rebellion as a fortress and palace, which you can uncover on a coach break with National Holidays.

Discover the magnificent red stone remains of the castle keep, with walls 14 feet thick, that witnessed the longest and most ferocious siege in English history in 1266.

Stand at the site of the majestic Great Hall, one of England’s finest examples of perpendicular Gothic architecture, which once played host to lavish banquets to entertain kings and queens. Also, learn how an insulting delivery of tennis balls at the Great Hall led to the battle of Agincourt.

Although the castle is a symbol of military strength it is best known as the magical setting of a Tudor royal love story.

During the 1570s, Robert Dudley spent most of his fortune restoring Kenilworth Castle, in an attempt to woo and seduce Queen Elizabeth I with lavish parties and entertainment.

Learn about this love story in a special exhibition at Leicester’s Gatehouse. Explore the authentic Elizabethan bedroom, Dining Room and Oak Room, with its alabaster fireplace taken from Elizabeth’s private rooms.

Feel like a Queen as you climb inside the private rooms of the tower Dudley built especially for Queen Elizabeth in the 1570s, and enjoy the mesmerising panoramic views of the garden and countryside that the Queen herself enjoyed.

You can also follow in the Queen’s footsteps in the formal Elizabethan Garden, which Dudley had especially created for her.

A right royal day out!
